EDP Volunteering: 2020 balance

2020 was a particularly challenging year for EDP Volunteer Program. But it was also a year in which volunteering was of fundamental importance in managing and responding to the socioeconomic consequences of the pandemic. This year, 2,807 EDP volunteers participated in 12 countries where EDP is present, transforming the lives of more than 290,000 people and impacting 830 social organizations.

During this year, EDP Volunteering had to reinvent itself and adapt the volunteering actions to the context and the new needs that arose. It launched an Emergency Campaign, which counted on 539 volunteers and impacted more than 27,000 people - this Campaign offered an answer to the most pressing needs that arose with the beginning of the pandemic, namely the fight against social isolation, the support to education and the donation of PPE and basic necessities.

At the end of the year, as is the tradition, the 10th Christmas Campaign took place, which, in a different year, focused on 2 main areas of intervention: combating social isolation and combating hunger and poverty, managing to support 222,606 beneficiaries and 410 social organizations.

In such a challenging year, EDP volunteering continued to make a difference and transform the communities where EDP is present, following and adapting to challenging times and contexts.
